About SARAH CHANIN Painter

I have always loved to draw. In mid life I had the chance to study Art seriously. I took an Honours Degree in Fine Art at what was then Exeter College of Art and Design, where I specialised in sculpture. Since graduating in 1989 the desire to paint has overtaken all else.

Why do it? There are many reasons, ever changing. The love of drawing, the discovery of Looking bringing the reward of seeing, NOTICING , marvelling. Finding shape, light, colour and sometimes hidden meaning. Trying to put it down as simply as I can.

The canals, their working boats and people, have been a friend for almost 30 years, so it was inevitable that they became a subject for painting, but music and landscape with and without figures are also sources of fascination and delight. Most of my subject matter is found outdoors.

I am a member of the Guild of Waterway Artists with whom I exhibit in the Midlands, I am also a member of the Kenn Group, with whom I have exhibited in Devon.
